1501, Queens

In this is year Anne Boleyn was born, the future Queen of England
[as King Henry VIII the second wife.
A queen, the dream of every girl,
[but for her a nightmare that cost her life.

When Henry began his pursuit of Anne,
[she resisted his attempts to seduce her,
and this denial has resulted this gorgeous girl to capture his heart
[like a commando, like a saboteur.

But the king was married already to Catherine of Aragon
[so he asked the Pope to annul his marriage.

Pope Clement VII made it clear he would not do it,
                                       [wrong judgment? wrongdoing? miscarriage?

Then Henry declared the English church's independence from Rome.
[and himself to be supreme head of the Church.
(The whole story is a subject difficult for a foreigner
[so I used the Internet as a resource for my research).

This action, this king's initiative, has resulted
[in a schism with the Papacy that exists until our days.

Anne was crowned Queen of England,
[but as it is known, love is unsatisfied, unfaithful, a dead-end maze,
and three years later her husband was courting Jane Seymour
[and had to find reasons to end the marriage to Anne.

Henry VIII had the Queen investigated for high treason,
[found guilty and beheaded.....a shocking outrageous plan !!

                                                      EPILOG
Her daughter became the most glorious Queen of England,
[and for her 45-year reign, earned the title "the Great"
Was Elizabeth I, (sometimes called The Virgin Queen) the Elizabethan era,
[the period of Shakespeare, Marlowe, and the adventurers such as Francis Drake.
